Estimating and Calibrating DER Model Parameters Using Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm in Renewable Rich Power Grid

The proliferation of inverter-based distributed energy resources (IBDERs) has increased the number control variables and dynamic interactions, leading to new grid challenges. For stability analysis designing appropriate protection controls, it is important that IBDER models are accurate. This paper focuses on accurate estimation parameter calibration DER_A, a recently proposed aggregated model. In particular, we focus parameters reactive power–voltage regulation module. We formulate problem tuning as non-linear least square minimization solve using Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) method. LM method primarily chosen due its flexibility in adaptively selecting between steepest descent Gauss–Newton methods through damping parameter. approach used minimize error actual measurements estimated response Further, computational challenges posed by numerical calculation Jacobian tackled quasi-Newton root-finding approach. validated real feeder model northeastern part United States. modeled OpenDSS thus obtained fed DER_A for calibration. simulation results indicate our able successfully calibrate relevant quickly with high accuracy, total sum 3.57×10−7.
